چکیده
Although leaf toughness is an essential plant adaptation to herbivore pressure and environmental stress, the relationships of with anatomy photosynthetic traits, its spatial variations within tropical rainforests, remain poorly understood. We measured these traits in 103 tree species belonging 27 families from canopy understory using a crane system rainforest Sarawak, Malaysia. focused on anatomical trait bundle-sheath extensions (BSEs) around vascular bundle due their diverse ecophysiological functions. divided trees into heterobaric BSEs homobaric lacking BSEs, investigate height, functional such as carbon (C) nitrogen (N) content, thickness, mass per area (LMA) maximum rate ( P max ). Leaf toughness, LMA, thickness C N contents increased height regardless BSE presence. Heterobaric leaves had greater than leaves, whereas LMA were similar between two types throughout gradient. found that standardized or was species, consist mainly fibrous tissue. higher for upper presumably functions including water conductivity, but did not differ type lower layers. In other words, efficiently exploit advantages tougher by having BSEs. The proportion , consistent physically stressful conditions canopy, high strong light.

Leaf thermotolerance in dry tropical forest tree species: relationships with leaf traits and effects of drought
Understanding how tropical trees will respond to extreme temperatures and drought is essential to predict how future increases in the severity, frequency and duration of extreme climatic events will affect tropical systems. In this study, we investigated leaf thermotolerance by quantifying the temperatures that resulted in a 50 % decrease in photosystem II function (T50) in experimentally grown...
متن کاملLeaf photosynthetic traits of 14 tropical rain forest species in relation to leaf nitrogen concentration and shade tolerance.
Variability of leaf traits related to photosynthesis was assessed in seedlings from 14 tree species growing in the tropical rain forest of French Guiana. Leaf photosynthetic capacity (maximum rate of carboxylation and maximum rate of electron transport) was estimated by fitting a biochemical model of photosynthesis to response curves of net CO2 assimilation rate versus intercellular CO2 mole fr...
متن کاملChanges in photosynthesis and leaf characteristics with tree height in five dipterocarp species in a tropical rain forest.
Variations in leaf photosynthetic, morphological and biochemical properties with increasing plant height from seedlings to emergent trees were investigated in five dipterocarp species in a Malaysian tropical rain forest. Canopy openness increased significantly with tree height. Photosynthetic properties, such as photosynthetic capacity at light saturation, light compensation point, maximum rate...

Hyperspectral discrimination of tropical rain forest tree species at leaf to crown scales
We investigated the utility of high spectral and spatial resolution imagery for the automated species-level classification of individual tree crowns (ITCs) in a tropical rain forest (TRF). Laboratory spectrometer and airborne reflectance spectra (161 bands, 437–2434 nm) were acquired from seven species of emergent trees. Analyses focused on leaf-, pixeland crown-scale spectra. We first describe...
